↵Traffic Regulations
Granada follows standard Spanish right-hand traffic rules. Local drivers navigate confidently, especially in city traffic.
Speed Limits:
- Urban areas: up to 50 km/h
- Outside cities: up to 80 km/h
- Highways: up to 120 km/h
Roundabout navigation: Vehicles already on the roundabout have priority.
All passengers must wear seatbelts in Spain. Children require car seats appropriate for their age and weight. Children under 135 cm cannot ride in the back seat without a car seat or booster.
Using phones while driving without a Handsfree system is prohibited. Daytime headlights are mandatory only when passing through tunnels and in poor visibility conditions.
Police strictly enforce traffic regulations. Tourists are frequently stopped for speeding or illegal parking. Keep your license and vehicle documents with you at all times.
Fuel Stations
Spain has two types of fuel stations: automated and standard. At standard stations, you fuel your vehicle, then pay at the cashier.
Automated stations offer fuel at lower prices. They accept cards, and some accept cash—but prepare the exact amount, as machines don't provide change. Like standard stations, automated ones offer additional services: vending machines, car wash, and tire inflation.
Some stations only accept card payments, so verify payment methods in advance.
Parking
Spanish cities have more paid parking than free parking. Pay for parking through parking meters. Machines accept coins but don't provide change. Most parking is free from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am.
Line colors indicate parking rules:
- Blue: paid zone
- Green/orange (sometimes marked "Zona verde"): residents only
- White: free spaces
Parking is prohibited in zones with yellow diagonal lines—these areas are designated for loading and unloading. You also cannot leave your vehicle in front of VADO signs (garage exits), "NO PARKING" notices, or in disabled parking spaces.
Underground parking entrances display electronic boards showing available spaces. "Completo" means all spaces are occupied. Pay for these parking areas when exiting.
